Durga Puja celebrations begin at NTPC Bongaigaon on Maha Panchami with the inauguration of SHARADOTSAV 2022 on 1st October 2022 at NTPC Uttarayan Township.The SHARADOTSAV-2022 was inaugurated by Shri Induri S Reddy, GM (Maintenance) along with Shri Arunashis Das, GM (Projects), Shri G.M. Thangzom, Dy. Commandant, CISF, members of the Festival Committee, NTPC Bongaigaon, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, representatives of union and associations by lighting the lamp in front of the Idol of Maa Durga and offering their prayers. A cultural program was done on the occasion welcoming the deity during the five days festival.

Later, on the evening of Maha Shasthi, Ms. Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar visited the puja pandal on Maha Shasthi in the presence of Shri Umesh Singh, GM (O&M) and on the occasion Devi Bodhon was conducted and the face of Devi Durga was unveiled. On Maha Saptami, NTPC's Bongaigaon's new Business Unit Head, Shri Karunakar Das offered his prayers to the almighty and wished the entire Bongaigaon family on the holy occasion. Shri Sanjay Pande, GM, FGD, Shri M.S.Kandari, Asst. Commandant, CISF, Fire Wing along with senior officials of the station with their families were also present on the occasion and offered their prayers before the idol of Maa Durga. On Maha Asthami and Maha Navami, a colourful dandiya evening was performed by the ladies of the township including employees and children.

To make the puja eco-friendly and energy efficient, most of the pandal decorations were done using environment friendly materials and all the lights are energy efficient. To promote and to create a sense of fun, vibrancy, a strong sense of community and a sense of place, major chunk of cultural programs are dedicated to in-house programs. Singing sensations from Guwahati also performed to celebrate the occasion. More than 100 kids in different groups have been preparing for the last one month for the program. Competitions like pot painting, singing, and dancing competition, conch playing, rangoli, fancy dress, dhunuchi dance (devotional dance is performed to thank Goddess Durga by holding a dhunuchi, which contains the burning coconut husk with dhuno sprinkled on it) were also held in the festival premises. NTPC Bongaigaon has become the confluence of culture and community building during the festivals with all adherences to the state and district guidelines for the puja. To promote local vendors for food, local artisans, handicrafts instead of big brands, all the food stalls are dedicated to the locals.

Initiatives have also been taken to spread the message “Say No to Plastics”. Measures have been taken to drastically reduce use of plastics during the celebrations.
